Greenspace Enhancement

In response to community consultation, Letham Climate Challenge have been endeavouring to improve greenspaces in our community

Seven Acres Woodland Path - The importance of our green-spaces has never been more prevalent with the benefits to both physical and mental health.

We have identified a stretch of derelict land which we have started rejuvenating to be a community greenspace to be enjoyed by dog-walkers, football spectators, picnickers and local schools and nurseries.

We started by pruning and clearing the overgrown neglected trees, opening up the walkway to natural light. We have since re-laid the path, planted Spring and Summer flowering bulbs and sown wildflower seeds to encourage biodiversity. We have also introduced bird houses and hedgehog houses to encourage wildlife.

Community planters – As a link between our shop-based services on Garth Avenue, and our 2 Allotment Sites, we have introduced community growing raised-planters outside of our shops. These are disabled accessible and volunteer designed and managed.

Community Orchard - In November 2013 Letham Climate Challenge planted a community orchard on Strathtay Road to celebrate Perth’s 800th Anniversary. 800 fruit trees were planted across Perth with LCC donating 40 apple trees to Strathtay Road.

The orchard is for the benefit of the local community, and accessible for residents to harvest fruit, wander through and picnic in the orchard.

Any leftover fruit, is harvested and shared to customers at our Swap Shop. Any bruised, holed or slightly rotten fruit is left for the benefit of birds, hedgehogs and butterflies.
